It’s been a while since my last post, but I wanted to fill err’body in on my fantastic week of doing absolutely nothing. Well, I am technically supposed to be writing a paper on Venice, but obviously I am going to write this blog post instead. My priorities are very high here.
It was so good finally getting back to my fairy tale town here in Castiglion Fiorentino. I got my nice clean bed and a nice hot shower after my two weeks of traveling around Europe. I’m still amazed I did so much in so little time. A friend of mine from Germany pointed out to me that I have traveled more than she has around Europe. I’m just making it count guys. Making. It. Count.
Also, about making it count. I got my hands on Taylor Swift’s new album. EVERYONE NEEDS THAT ALBUM. I have at least listened to it 3.2 million times already. I suggest everyone else to do the same.
I spent my Monday back like all the past Mondays: MUSICALLY! I’m making this a thing when I come back because Mondays suck a whole lot less when you are watching sing a longs. Even though we watched Dirty Dancing, we still sat around singing the great music of the time and asking ourselves if they really danced dirtily. They did. In case you were wondering. Also, I finally thought of a slogan for my wine company, Big Trunk wine. LET’S GET TRUNKED TONIGHT. Bahahaha. Stand up comedy is looking good for my future and me.
Tuesday came with my favorite class: developing photos. I can not help myself from falling in love with this class, and every class here because I feel like I am going back into time as I’m testing my times and developing it in a dark room with only red lights, listening to my jazz album. Well, it’s Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, but it’s still absolutely amazing!
The daily visit for this week was Assisi, Italy, the home of Santa Francesco and Santa Chiara. I hope that is right because we visited three churches in one day, but the home of Santa Francesco was absolutely beautiful with it’s mixtures of gothic and Romanesque architecture. I’m no architect, but it was absolutely beautiful. Before I could enjoy the town, the sky decided to unleash rain and wind across the mountains and valleys of this town. Despite the fact that I spent most of the day cold and wet, autumn in the mountains of Italy are absolutely breathtaking. I guess I’m not used to such color in Texas, but the oranges and reds and yellows were sooooooo amazing. Once again, lost for words.
Thursday, I finally finished my last of traditional print making techniques, which involved acid. And acid as in the liquid to etch the copper plate, not the drug. I know some of y’all were a little concerned so let me clarify that. Don’t worry because I didn’t hurt myself. I DID NOT HURT MYSELF. Well, I didn’t hurt myself from the acid. I did run into a tree sculpture in the studio. I ran into it three times. THREE TIMES. I now have a nice bruise on my shin. Life is hard guys. I cannot walk, work and look down all the time to avoid dangerous things. I think I just need to invest in a nice bubble wrap suit to protect myself because I have so many scars from this trip alone.
LET’S GET DOWN ON FRIDAY. Well, I didn’t get down because I spent the morning getting a cup of coffee and my favorite coffee shop, and then spent the afternoon watching the Diary of Bridget Jones. Both of them. I have a new love for Colin Firth. Aka Mr. Darcy. And the fact the Bridget Jones is the epitome of my life. I would be the spaz that forgets pants in the end. In a snowstorm. I’m gonna do better at wearing pants now. LOL. NO I AM NOT.
Saturday was my favorite day this past week and maybe several weeks. I spent the morning knitting and finishing my sailor moon season, NO JUDGEMNET PLEASE. I am almost done with scarf number two. But obviously that wasn’t the best part of my day. After lunch with some of my favorite people, yes you Shelby, Bailey and Monique, I went to the studio to finish my twenty prints I had to make. I don’t know if I have shared with y’all about my studio, but it overlooks almost the entire valley that our town is nestled in. Right when I was getting frustrated with my prints, I noticed an orange glow bouncing off the walls around the studio. Curious, I went and right outside the window, AND THERE IT WAS. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SUNSET THAT I HAVE SEEN IN THIS TOWN. I am all about the sunsets here, I haven’t even shared all my secret pictures of the beautiful sunsets. But the one above was so mesmerizing and captivating that I had to stare at it for a good five-ten minutes. That’s when this picture was captured. Thanks Bai, all photo cred goes to her. It was the best thing to strengthen my motivation for my work and to keep my soul satisfied.
Sunday was like most typical Sundays. Lunch at Roggi’s. A little bit of knitting. Movies and homework.
I am sad I only have about two weeks left here. My heart will literally break when I say goodbye. My new friends, my sunsets, my food, even my traditional art are going to be deeply missed.
But I am starting a list of things to look forward to when I get back. For example, fast Internet, Mexican food, sweet tea, Mocking jay, and thanksgiving. I know there is one more thing to look forward to. What was it…hmm.. OH. MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I GET TO COME BACK AND SEE THEIR FACES.
Until later, my fellow Americans, and the few Europeans that follow me, I will be packing and preparing for Germany and finishing my schoolwork. I can’t wait to share what I have been doing.
Sincerely yours,
Sadie
