Well, I saw a bag with FRANCO written on it. Not my future husband. Close enough right? BUT I have had quite an adventure this past week, and I am sure all of y’all have been on y’alls toes waiting for my next mishap or trip.
Speaking of trips, if you haven’t heard, I took a nice trip last week! And by trip I mean I FELL DOWN A HILL AND ALMOST DIED. Not really. I’d love to say this hill was full of clouds and flowers, but no. It was cobblestone and the only person to help me was an Italian man who didn’t see the blood rolling down my knee and spoke no English whatsoever. It’s quite humorous looking back on it. Me: flailing, limping and crying and him trying to direct me back to my study center, which I knew where it was. I said grazie and limped on to the center, where my good friends, Kai, Taylor and Kathryn helped me bandage, ice and fix my knee. Seth just stood far away, not really sure how to take my hysteria. He did throw me a pillow. Thanks for that pillow Seth.
Well after that trip, came the second trip: Florence. No, I didn’t fall, just slightly limped around the town, as my knee was wrapped and burning. We were supposed to visit the church there, but the weather was rainy and dreary. So, instead we visited the room of 500 men and different palaces and homes of Italian families. We also visited the Galileo Museum. And let me tell you, I HELD A BOOK THAT WAS FROM THE 1500s. I touched history. And history touched me. Right? I have proof if you don’t believe me. Don’t read the next sentence Mom. Skip down to the next paragraph if your name is Melissa Long. I might have done a little bit of shopping after the visit, where I might have bought a cute sweater for a good price. I TOLD YOU NOT TO READ IT MOM.
Anyways, that tiring adventure left the next day to be a beautiful one indeed. After a much needed night’s sleep, I had my art class where we did relief printmaking and the turnout was AMAZING. I am actually struggling with inspiration here, but carving out a design in some foam board turned out to be one of my best works in these twenty years of my living and breathing. I got inspiration from the Italian clouds and an elephant. *Picture will be in my gallery* And I got the best news ever from this. AN ARTIST WAS INTERESTED IN A PRINT OF MY ELEPHANT. MY ELEPHANTE. I’ve never been so happy in my life. Well, I have but I have never been so impressed with myself. I'll keep you updated on that one.
AND THEN THE BEST PART OF MY TRIP IS NOW. I GOT TO SEE MY NORWEGIAN SISTER, LISE-MARIE ØYVIK. We traveled with her friend Karoline around Venice. We stayed at a hotel on the canal, and it was absolutely beautiful. I wish there were more words to describe a place that was full of such breathtaking beauty. Also, there were guys from America there. One asked where we were from, and while the other girls answered Norway, I answered Texas. He actually seemed a little shocked. Why you might ask? He said that I don’t have an accent. CAN Y’ALL BELIEVE, Y’ALL? This girl doesn’t posses the Texas twang. But he doesn’t know me after two glasses of wine. Hahahaha. Continuing, I let a pigeon sit on me in San Marco square, got lost at nighttime, and had good laughs together. Our last day together in Venice consisted of eating lunch on the Canal and rode a romantic gondola at sunset followed with gelato. I miss you guys already! But it’s not goodbye, it’s see you later…
I made it to free dinner Sunday night at the center where I continued my school time adventures. We developed film for black and white photography, and I am so excited to see how my pictures turn out. But I think the most interesting part of my trip was going to Siena yesterday. We visited two beautiful churches, and saw the head of Saint Catherine. Yes. That is correct. I SAW A HEAD FROM A SAINT FROM THE 1300S. SKIN AND HEAD AND MUMMY. It was absolutely…astonishing. Shocking. Barbaric. Everything. And it’s well preserved! This skin is still on her face! From thousands of years ago! They also had her right thumb. SKIN AND EVERYTHING AGAIN.
Despite severed heads and lots of walking, last night after two days of booking, planning and horrible wifi, my good friend, Elissa, and I have booked our fall break to Paris, Amsterdam and London. I’m one step away from becoming a Witch/Princess at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in London. I CAN’T WAIT. I CANNOT EVEN WAIT. I CAN’T EVEN.
I’m 24 days in, and I already miss milk, fried chicken, burgers and Mexican food. MEXICAN FOOD. Oh man, I’d do some bad things for some good Mexican food right now. You can send enchiladas in the mail, right?
Well if you can’t, which I know you can’t, you should mail me letters and fun stuff!
Here’s how you can:
1. Grab paper and pen
2. Sit down
3. Place tip of pen on paper
Oh, wait, you’re probably looking for the address. Here’s the address
