Alright, guys got another story for ya. I'm not sure what they drink here but it's most likely a Heineken so grab one and enjoy da stories.
So starting off with my wonderful train ride, well it was wayyy better than my 14 hour train ride. It was a nice three hour rude to the heart of Amsterdam. I can literally walk everywhere here! We got here. Got yelled at for being in the bike lane and somehow found our way to our hostel. Which can we talk about how beautiful this city is! It makes me miss my little adopted Dutch family so much! I get to see y'all again in like 28 days!
So going in back to day one, Elissa and I visited the Rijksmuseum. I'm sorry for butchering that spelling, but it's the art gallery that counts not the spelling! It had tons of beautiful and old artwork, including Vermeer, Van Gogh and Remembrandt. Ah. Such stunning work. And not only that! Amsterdam was like my dream of fall. Italy isn't too cold yet. But Amsterdam is the perfect snuggling weather. It even smells like fall. Despite the coffee shops that line the street, everything was perfect.
So we took this perfect timing and conquered the Heineken experience! And it was soooo worth it. We went on a walking tour to see all the behind the scene action. Which involved empty bins and horses! And this part is interesting because here we find beautiful, male black horses. And one of them is named René. My middle name is René. MOM. DAD. YOU GAVE ME THE MALE SPELLING. I guess I'll move on. After a very fun 4D adventure ride, we got to officially beer taste. I'm a pro now by the way. And then I got to have two more beers. But don't worry parentals, they were tiny but still really cool! And at the very end we got a free glass. I really hope I can bring glass back without breaking it...oh well! I'll figure that out in 28 days.
The rest of the night consisted of roaming the red light district and checking out Amsterdam nightlife. I'm happy to say that people here were wayyyy nicer than Paris. I'm now sad to say that upon walking into the red light district that I realized why it's called the red light district. They really do use red lights. This blondie did NOT catch on to that quick enough.
Obviously, I'm not going to talk about the prostitution, so I'll go straight to day 2. The Anne Frank house is where this journey begins. It wasn't just a physical journey for me, it was actually kind of emotional. The house is just an empty void of remembrance for a girl like Anne, who had a dream. *steps on soapbox* And it's a shame she didn't get to see her legacy. She was a victim of hate and war, and so many issues, can still be relatable today. For me, it was unbelievably amazing reading excerpts from a young girl who just wanted to make an impact and stop the hate. Everything about the house was with it on my visit here. *silently steps off soapbox*
Speaking of books, there's a new one coming out called The Fault in Our Debt. It's about two college girls and their infinite amount of debt. Actually, two college girls sat on the bench they used for the movie The Fault In Our Stars. Yeah. That's right. Ansel Elgort's butt touched that bench. And I sat on it. The picture above is the canal in front of it.
After writing that short novel, we traveled to the Van Gogh museum. I did not realize how crazy he really was. And he was only active as an artist for ten years. TEN YEARS. And he created so many beautiful paintings!? It. Was. Amazing.
And this is where my journey ends my friends. Wait. No there was something else...oh. I FOUND A DR. PEPPER. AMSTERDAM HAS DR. PEPPER. This is not a drill!!!
And that's where it ends.
I think Europe has taken my sense of humor. I don't know how to be funny anymore.
Next stop, London!
Sincerely yours,
Sadie
